Woman Dies Following Three-Vehicle Accident In Pomfret
POMFRET – A three-car accident resulted in one driver’s death Monday in the town of Pomfret.
According the New York State Police at Fredonia, around 1:20 p.m. a 49-year-old female identified as Carolanne T. Boulionis of Melbourne, Australia, was driving north on Route 60, when she lost control of her pickup truck near the intersection with Shumla Road allegedly due to speed not reasonable for weather conditions.
Police report the vehicle then crossed over the center line and collided with a southbound freightliner stake truck driven by Matthew J. Wick, 50, of Cattaraugus.
A third vehicle operated by Alexander C. Thurston, 32, of Silver Creek, was also headed southbound behind Wick’s truck. Thurston’s vehicle also sustained damage in the accident.
Boulionis was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital by Alstar Ambulance, but was pronounced dead by Dr. Andrew Covey. According to State Police, Boulionis was in the United States as a visitor in recent weeks, residing on Hopkins Avenue in Jamestown.
Wicks was transported to Brooks by Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department for a complaint of chest pain. Thurston was uninjured.
Route 60 was closed until 6:45 p.m. while the accident was cleared and investigated, and traffic was detoured on to Spoden Road.
The Fredonia Fire Department also responded to the scene.
