Thanks For Helping Red Kettle Campaign

To the Readers’ Forum:

Captains John and Kim Merchant of The Salvation Army in Jamestown would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that took part in making our Christmas season a success even though our economy is going through some very difficult times. Because of your generosity we were able to exceed our goal, raising $103,247. We are so grateful to be a part of a community that cares so much for those less fortunate. We need to thank so many who took part in the Red Kettle campaign and the Holiday Assistance program. – the companies and retailers who opened their doors to our kettle workers, our bell ringer and holiday assistance volunteers, individuals and companies who gave of their resources – dropped in the kettle, checks you sent in the mail – your generosity in time and resources was a blessing to us. Because of your sacrifices, 641 families received food baskets and over 1,200 children received three presents from the Angel Tree program this season.

As always, we embrace the opportunity to help the people in our community and we promise to use the funds responsibly to help our fellow human beings who truly need assistance during the coming year. The monies collected from the Red Kettles and the mail appeals combined with the money we receive from United Way are used for a variety of services such as: utility assistance, emergency shelter, food, medical, clothing, personal care products and furniture along with a variety of programs and counseling that will enable our neighbors to become self-sufficient.

We would also like to add a special thank you to our media who have helped us reach our community during a very intense campaign. Thank you for your support and may God bless all of you and keep you safe in 2014.
