Zenns Named To Jamestown BPU Board
Mayor Sam Teresi has named Martha Zenns, a longtime city resident and Jamestown Community College professor, to a four-year position on the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities board.
Zenns fills the seat formerly held by Dr. Len Faulk, who retired from the board at the end of 2013.
Zenns also serves as chairperson of the Jamestown Planning Commission, and, since 2007, has participated as a member of the Jamestown Urban Renewal Agency. In 2012, she volunteered as part of the City of Jamestown Reapportionment Committee. In addition, Zenns has been involved with volunteer efforts on behalf of the Fenton History Center.
Zenns said she is looking forward to joining the BPU board. The position will afford her the opportunity to make connections between what she teaches in the classroom and the various practices and functions of a public utility.
Zenns earned her Bachelor of Science in economics from St. Bonaventure University where she later took additional coursework through its Master of Business Administration Program. Zenns also completed a Masters of Arts in Economics and Finance at the State University at Binghamton.
Beginning in 1986, Zenns has taught many different JCC courses including macroeconomics, microeconomics, marketing, contemporary economic problems, global business, introduction to business and personal finance. During her JCC career,. Zenns has been honored with the Faculty Award for Excellence; the Community Service Award -AIDS Community Service of Western New York; the President’s Award for Excellence; and the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Zenns’ professional growth includes service as the JCC co-adviser at annual conferences held in the United States and Europe as part of the State University of New York Model European Union. Starting in 1997, Zenns continues to serve as a reader/table leader for Advanced Placement Exams in Macroeconomics for Educational Testing Services. From 2005 to the present, she has been a member of the Macro and Micro Economics Examination Test Development Committee for the College Level Examination Program.
Zenns has taken part in educational conferences around the world such as the Far East Studies-China course through St. Bonaventure University, including two weeks of travel and study through the Beijing Institute of Technology.
She attended the International Conference on the First Year Experience in England as well as the Economics and Business Education Association International Conference in Glasgow, Scotland. She has also served as a textbook reviewer in economics and business.
At JCC, Zenns sat for nine years on the Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarship Committee, serving as chair from 2006-09. She presented workshops for several years at both the annual Student Orientation Fall Start Ups and during Faculty Development Days. From 2009-11, Ms. Zenns was a member of the JCC Middle States Steering Committee. She is a member of the JCC Financial Literary Task Force; the Curriculum Committee; the Calendar Committee and the Committee to develop a Global Studies degree at JCC.
Zenns lives on Willard Street with her husband Gilbert Lindahl.
