Wellness Day Is Friday At Winter Market
Free demonstrations, classes and samples from local area health professionals and advocates will be under one roof on Friday.
The free wellness day will be at the winter market, which is held each Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Dr. Lillian Ney Renaissance Center, 119-121 W. Third St., Jamestown. Businesses and groups participating in the wellness day include Herbs R-4-U, Barkstrom Acupuncture, Frewsburg Nutrition & Wellness Center, EnVie Fitness, WIC, YMCA, The Parent Network of New York, Jamestown Garden Groups, Cristin Hockenberry’s essential and healing oils class and a pilates demonstration from Jennifer Nelsen. The Gypsy Moon Cake Co. and The Dalahast Coffee Roasters will have lunch and coffee specials.
The Busti Cider Mill & Farm Market and Small Meadows Farm will have fresh local produce, state cheese, honey, eggs, jams and jellies, maple products, fresh frozen meat and homemade baked goods.
The Chautauqua County Health Network and Creating Healthy Places will be there, as well.
Christina King, Jamestown Renaissance Corporation farmers market assistant, said this is the first wellness day for the winter market, which is in its second year.
”We focused on getting all these organizations and business together in one facility. This way it is easier for people to get to see them all. It is good for the organization. It gets them face time with people, and they can advertise what they do.”
King said attendance at the winter market this year has been low at times because of the bitter cold temperatures and snow.
”It is picking up, and the word is getting out,” she said.
King said each Friday there are informative classes held between 10 a.m and noon. The classes range from being free to $5 for items used in the class. Registration is required for all classes.
”People can make a holiday wreath or make cheese,” she said. ”On Feb. 14 we have a food preserving class, and Feb. 21 we have seed starting for the spring.”
King said the last day for the winter market will be Feb. 28. She said the Downtown Jamestown Farmers Market will be returning this summer. The farmers market will have a new location, time and date, which has not yet been determined.
