YWCA Westfield Classes To Continue

WESTFIELD – The YWCA Westfield will host tumbling and taekwondo classes, daytime adult exercise sessions and ZUMBA classes through the winter months.

Tumbling classes are held each Monday evening for students between the ages of 3 and 7. Younger children between the ages of 3 and 5 have class at 5:30 p.m. while the class at 6:30 is designed for students up to age 7. The classes are open to both boys and girls and focus on basic balance techniques, summersaults, stretching and special movements. The instructor is Holly Spoon, assisted by Amelia Askey. Both teachers have a background of dance and cheerleading. The class fee is $25 per month and the cost of a YWCA youth membership. Students and parents are welcome to observe a class prior to registering.

Tae kwon do Classes will continue Tuesday and Thursday nights at the YWCA. Classes are offered under the direction of longtime teacher Albert Ramirez for students ages 8 through adult. Class begins at 5 p.m. for the students up to age 15 with the 16 through adult group meeting at 6:30 p.m. Each group of students will focus on tae kwon do, which features speed, strength, stamina and flexibility. Tae kwon do is an Olympic event and is considered the most popular martial art. It is practiced in more than 100 countries by 30 million followers. Under the director of Ann Cochran, the YWCA hosts morning adult exercise classes. The class is open to men and women over the age of 18 and meets three times a week. Class begins at 10:30 a.m. and meets each Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Chairs are provided for stability, individuals can attend once, twice or all three times and participants are encouraged to participate at their own pace. There is no fee for the class but a valid YWCA membership is required. The class meets in the YWCA gymnasium. Walk-ins are welcome.

ZUMBA classes are held each Wednesday evening and Saturday morning at the YWCA. Instructor Holly Spoon holds the Wednesday class at 6:30 p.m. and the Saturday class begins at 8 a.m. Classes are open to both men and women, no registration required, walk-ins are welcome and payment of $5 can be made at the door.
