John D. “J.D.” Smith

John D. “J.D.” Smith, 66, of 14 Chambers St., went to be with his Lord and Sa-vior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014.

He was at home with his family, and died peacefully in his sleep.

He was born Dec. 26, 1947, in Jamestown, the son of the late Milo M. Smith and Pansy May Reed Smith.

He was a graduate of Panama Central School.

He was a 12-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1967-79.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Jamestown Public Schools as a custodian for 25 years.

J.D. was an avid musician/songwriter and led worship at his church, Zion Tabernacle.

Surviving are his wife of 15 years, Chloe Smith; children: Alison Smith of Sherman, N.Y., Amanda Wilson, Sydney Smith, Justus Smith and John Smith Jr., all of Jamestown; a grandson, Joshua Wilson of Ashville; a brother, William (Patricia) Smith of Ashville; a sister-in-law, Maria Smith of Jamestown; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: James Smith, Arthur Smith, Milo Smith Jr. and Thomas Smith; and two sisters: Betty Smith and Ann Smith.

The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Zion Tabernacle. The Rev. Robert E. Reeves will offi-ciate.

Burial will be in Block-ville Union Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 3-4 p.m. Tuesday in the church, which is handicapped accessible.
