Neal I. Franklin
DUNKIRK – Neal I. Franklin, 72, of Park Avenue, Dunkirk, formerly of Forestville, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at his residence.
He was born in Silver Creek, on Sept. 23, 1941, the son of the late Howard and Dorothy (Waterman) Franklin.
Mr. Franklin was a graduate of Forestville Central School, class of 1960, and worked as an assistant stationary engineer at Lakeview Shock Facility, Brocton, for 14 years, retiring in 2003. Mr. Franklin, at one time, also worked as an artificial inseminator for Eastern Coop for 12 years, owned and operated a dairy farm at Parcell’s Corners in Forestville, and worked as a truck driver for the former R&L Smith Trucking, South Dayton and Benchley Construction of Silver Creek. He was an exempt member of the Randolph Fire Department and first assistant chief for three years, was a former board member for the town of Randolph for eight years and a member of Dunkirk Moose Lodge 89.
Mr. Franklin enjoyed playing euchre, making popcorn with his grandchildren, going to horse pulls and he loved his family very much.
Survivors include his loving companion, Peggy Spears of Forestville; three daughters: Elaine (Nathan) Hayes and Diane Franklin, both of South Hadley, Mass., and Janeane (Joseph) DiCara of Dunkirk; a brother, Kenneth Franklin, of Chardon, Ohio; and a sister, Catherine (Michael) Gruber, of Forestville. Also surviving are four grandchildren; Zhanna Hayes, Jack Chagnon, Evan and Molly DiCara; his former wife, Jane (Doug) Frink of Dunkirk; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are welcome to call at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main St., Forestville on Friday from 24 p.m. and 79 p.m. from where funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11 a.m. The Rev. James D. Hankey, pastor of the Forestville United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Perrysburg Cemetery.
