Verdun E. “Sandy” Sandell

Verdun E. “Sandy” Sandell, 95, of Falconer passed away Monday (Jan. 6, 2014) in his home.

He was born Nov. 26, 1918, in Scandia, Pa., the son of the late Albert and Bessie Irwin Sandell.

Verdun was a graduate of Jamestown High School and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific.

He had been employed by Chautauqua Hardware, retiring in 1984.

He was a lifetime member of the John W. Tiffany Post 53, VFW and a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club.

Surviving are two stepsons: Frank L. (Jane) Pekarski of Falconer, and Brant (Drucilla) Pekarski of Coudersport, Pa.; seven stepgrandchildren: Bruce Pekarski, Michelle Pekarski, Lucas Pekarski, Brian Scott Pekarski, Jo-Rene Housler, Randy Scott Pekarski and Jodi Lee Vossler; four great-grandchildren: Amber Pekarski, Jacob, Joshua and Jordan Timmerman; and a great great-grandchild, Addyson Howell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude M. Sandell whom he married Aug. 12, 1986, who died June 9, 2008; two sisters: Orpha C. Larson, and Louise Golczynski; and a brother, Leverne Sandell.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Rev. Tim Phelps will officiate.

Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer.

Friends will be received by the family one hour prior to the funeral service Thursday in the funeral home.
