Bentham, Wilcox Spark Pine Valley Girls’ Win

SOUTH DAYTON – Alex Bentham and Jesse Wilcox led a third-quarter spurt that eventually led Pine Valley to its fifth girls basketball win in six games on Friday night.

Bentham and Wilcox each scored six points with all of Bentham’s points on 3-pointers during a 22-10 third period run as the Lady Panthers came up with a 53-36 non-league victory over Dunkirk (1-4).

Bentham wound up the leading scorer for the Panthers with 12 points on four 3-pointers and Wilcox finished with 11 while Kaitlyn Hoth added nine points and Laurel Killock contributed eight .

Hoth stole the ball eight times while Wilcox and Killock had four assists for the winners. Wilcox and Aaron Waterman each had seven boards in the rebounding battle won by Dunkirk, 37-32, led by Amanda Clark with 11 rebounds.

From the floor, Pine Valley made 20-of-63 for 32 percent while Dunkirk hit 15-of-41 for 36 percent.

Sarah Hanlon led the Lady Marauders with four steals.
