Locks Of Love

A second-grader at Frewsburg’s Robert H. Jackson Elementary School spent a portion of her New Year’s Eve holiday honoring a former teacher.

On Tuesday, 7-year-old Haleigh Albright and her family gathered at Richard’s Hair Salon, where she underwent a significant hairstyle transformation that resulted in the donation of 10 inches of hair to Locks of Love.

According to mother, Amy Albright, Haleigh had heard about the Locks of Love organization from a friend, and wanted to make a donation in honor of her first-grade teacher, Michelle Collins. Amy said Collins was diagnosed with breast cancer at the beginning of the 2012-13 school year, at which point Haleigh decided to start growing out her hair with Locks of Love in mind.

“I felt bad for Mrs. Collins, and I wanted to do something nice for her,” Haleigh said.

“(Haleigh) formed a special connection with (Collins),” Amy said. “A friend of hers had done it for someone else, so Haleigh decided she wanted to do it for Mrs. Collins.”

Locks of Love is a public nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.
