Gerry Approves 9.05 Percent Tax Levy Increase

GERRY-The town of Gerry’s 2014 budget will feature a 9.05 percent increase in the tax levy.

In November, Gerry voted to override the 2 percent tax levy limit. Gerry’s 2014 budget will be $1,410,500 – $66,346 or 4.71 percent more than the 2013 budget.

The tax levy, or the amount of money raised by property taxes, will be $481,215, a $43,514 or 9.05 percent increase. The tax rate for Sinclairville is $4.16 per $1,000 of assessed value, a 2.3 percent increase from last year and $4.64 per $1,000 of assessed value for the town outside of the village, a 2.6 percent increase.

In other news, Gerry set the dates for the year end and organizational meetings. The year-end meeting will take place Monday at 6 p.m. and the organizational meeting will take place on Jan. 2 at 6 p.m.

Gerry also approved the set up and selling of hunting licenses with the state online.
