Holiday Tradition

Santa visited the children of Celoron recently at The Resource Center.

About 81 children received gifts from Santa, courtesy of the village. A long-standing tradition in Celoron, the attendance rate soared when the event moved to The Resource Center five years ago.

“They (The Resource Center) are the ones who help make this possible,” said Mayor Scott Schrecengost. Schrecengost said the former mayor, John “Jack” Keeney, started holding the event at The Resource Center instead of the Community Center because he wanted to work with The Resource Center.

“It’s been a good relationship,” Schrecengost said.

Children eligible to receive a gift could either be a child or grandchild of a resident. Parents and grandparents were encouraged to give the village a list of ideas of gifts for each child, and the presents were handed out based on the order Celoron received the request forms.

Kids waiting for presents could enjoy refreshments and stories read by Trustee Robin Young.
