Eventz By Scott To Assist With Party Planning

Planning for events can be stressful. Worrying about appointments, remembering fine details and thinking up creative ways to keep guests entertained leave many exhausted and burned out.

Scott Mekus, owner of Eventz by Scott, shows immunity to such side-effects, and excels where others struggle.

“Since I was young, I always seemed to have a knack for details, organization and creativity according to several friends and family in my life,” Mekus said. “I’m not sure if this was always considered a strength or not – but I can definitely say it has helped me throughout the years.”

Mekus said he always had a passion for putting on events, and did event planning since high school.

Mekus grew up in Dunkirk, graduated from the city school in 1989. From there he went to SUNY Fredonia and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in business administration and marketing.

He moved to Atlanta working as a customer service manager before he moved back to Western New York in September 2001, taking up a job as the membership and marketing director at the Jamestown YMCA.

“After several years of hearing, ‘You should be an event planner,’ I finally decided to take an event planning course in 2010, which lasted four months,” he said.

In 2011, he started Eventz by Scott and began doing events not only for private individuals, but for the community as a whole. The Haunting at the Mall and the Jamestown Christmas Village were just two of his events, where he acted as director. The Haunting at the Mall was a Halloween event which raised funds for the Chautauqua County Humane Society.

Jamestown’s Christmas Village was held at the Lillian V. Ney Renaissance Center last weekend, and included 20 vendors, Santa Claus with a slide from “A Christmas Story,” Rudolph, a bounce house, musical performances and refreshments for people to enjoy.

Both events did well, he said.

“I enjoy doing events for the community, pulling the community together,” Mekus said.

He does events in Chautauqua County, but can service other counties depending on the event.
