Candle-Escents Makes Donations To Area Fire Departments
Denise TeWinkle, owner of Candle-Escents, presented a $300 donation check to Al LaFredo of the Ashville Fire Department earlier this month.
During the past year, Candle-Escents has been making fire-starters as a fundraiser for area fire departments. TeWinkle said that area funeral homes, churches and customers bring unused candle wax to the Candle-Escents factory. The waxes are melted and poured into small paper cups. These cups are bagged up by the dozen and sold as fire starters to use in campfires and wood stoves. The sale from those firestarters are then donated to local fire departments.
“It is a way for us to give back to the wonderful men and women who volunteer their time to keep us safe,” TeWinkle said. “We don’t realize how brave these firefighters are until we hear the whistle blow and know they are there to help the people in their community.”
Candle-Escents also made donations to the Lakewood, Panama, Findley Lake and Sherman Fire Departments. Each year she plans on making more donations to other area fire departments.
Anyone wanting to recycle candle wax or would like to purchase the firestarters, can stop into Candle-Escents at 2227 Route 394 in Ashville during their store hours on Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon-4 p.m. For more information call 763-0431.
