John H. Silk III

John H. Silk III, 66, of Jamestown passed away Tuesday (Dec. 17, 2013) in his home.

A lifelong area resident he was born Oct. 1, 1947, in Jamestown, the son of John H. Silk Jr. and Doris Leyman Silk.

John attended Jamestown schools and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1964-67 aboard the USS Intrepid and USS Randolph. Prior to retirement he was employed by the Chautauqua County Highway Department.

John was a member of the Henry Mosher Post 638 American Legion, Vietnam Veterans Association, Celoron Fishing Club, South Hills Country Club and lifetime member of the Falconer Rod & Gun Club and North American Hunting Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing.

Surviving are two sons: John H. Silk IV and Jamie Patterson Silk, both of Jamestown; a daughter, Deanna “Jodi” Moore of South Carolina; seven grandchildren: Devonte Green of Jamestown, Jordan Crosson and Gunnar Silk, both of Falconer, Jamie Michelle Silk and Rebecca Lynn Silk, both of Oklahoma, Lynea Shae Silk of Jamestown, and Gabriella Chimenti of South Carolina; a great-granddaughter, Reagan Lane Collins of Oklahoma; his mother, Doris Silk of Falconer; a brother, Tim (JoAnn) Silk of Jamestown; and two nieces: Kristen Silk and Jillian Silk, both of Orlando, Fla.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janelle Moore, and his father, John H. Silk Jr.

A memorial service and visitation will be held at a later date.
