JCC?Foundation Sets?Up Veterans Scholarship Fund
A Veterans Scholarship Fund has been established through the Jamestown Community College Foundation to ease the financial burden of attaining a college degree for veterans, those currently serving on active duty or on reserve status, their spouses, and their children or dependents.
The scholarship fund was the brainchild of friends of Traci C. Maybach, a Jamestown resident who died unexpectedly in September 2013 at the age of 52.
Maybach was an ardent volunteer supporter of veterans.
“Creating a scholarship fund at JCC for veterans is something Traci would have loved to see,” said Jean Schrader, a friend of Maybach’s. “When we discussed the possibility with her friends and family members as a way of remembering Traci, the idea just seemed perfectly natural to everyone involved.
“We are very excited to do something in Traci’s name that will help veterans and their family members achieve a college degree.”
A group of Maybach’s friends and family members, including Judy Grimm, Wendy Burns, Shawna Kohlbacher, Susan Muscato, Marie Plumb, Barb Russell and Wendy Present, are soliciting donations toward the Veterans Scholarship Fund with a goal of $10,000, which would enable the fund to be permanently endowed.
Once fully funded, the Veterans Scholarship will be given to eligible full- or part-time students seeking a degree or certificate at any of JCC’s campuses or extension centers.
The scholarship will be applied directly to the student’s account and will be put toward tuition and/or textbook expenses not covered by Veterans Affairs education benefits.
Gifts of any amount may be made to the Veterans Scholarship Fund in honor or in memory of any veteran or military member currently serving or other individuals who, like Maybach, support veterans.
