Hetrick Wins Individual Title For Trojans

ATTICA-Ryan Hetrick won a wrestling championship for Southwestern in the Attica Tournament on Saturday.

Hetrick took the 113-pound title by beating Mike Benosa of Victor from Section 5, 3-0, running his record to 7-1 for the season.

Hetrick also had two pins and two decisions en route to victory. He was named to the all-academic team along with teammates Howard Boutelle (215), Giuseppe Hoose (106) and Mason Hoose (170).

Tanner Hoose lost on a stalling point in the final 10 seconds in dropping a 3-2 decision at 182 pounds to state-ranked Adam Paddock of Warsaw.

The loss was Tanner Hoose’s first of the season and left his record at 7-1. He also had four pins during the tournament, which was held in one day instead of two due to weather.

Mason Hoose finished third to give him a 6-3 record at 170 pounds while Shane Hetrick was fourth at 99 pounds with a 6-3 record.

Warsaw was the champion by a wide margin among the 12 teams entered. Midlakes came in second and Lyndonville third while Southwestern wound up seventh.


PORTVILLE-Randolph added another wrestling title as it repeated as the champions of the 29th annual Portville Invitational.

Chris Doubek, Dennis Andrews, Pat Kibbe and Dakota Parkhurst claimed crowns for the Cardinals.

Doubek posted a thrilling 7-6 win over Ben Knoll of Avoca as he came up with a reverse in the final seconds at 160 pounds.

Andrews pinned Roni Amin of Sweet Home in 5:32 to win at 195 pounds and Kibbe took care of James McNeal of Wellsville in 4:52 at 285 pounds. Doubek, Andrews and Kibbe won three bouts.

Parkhurst downed Matt Collier of Skaneateles, 8-4, to win at 113 pounds. He captured two bouts.

Unseeded Matt Evans, making his debut for Randolph in tournament play, was second at 99 pounds as he lost to Trent Nadeau of Sweet Home, 8-2.

Other wrestlers for Randolph who earned points were Marshall Johnson with a third at 130 pounds, Wes Sluga a fourth at 182 pounds and Tristian Holdridge and Ben Hvizdzak fifths at 120 and 170 pounds, respectively.


SINCLAIRVILLE-Olean/Allegany Limestone recorded a perfect 5-0 record in winning the fifth annual Cassadaga Valley Duals before a large crowd.

Westfield/Ripley/Chautauqua Lake placed second with a 4-1 record, Dunkirk/Silver Creek third with a 3-2 record and Maple Grove, Salamanca and host Cassadaga Valley tied with 1-4 records.

Olean/Allegany Limestone had Jake Bartlett (99), Drew Marra (120), Tom Weis (152) and Shawn Williams (285) as champions.

Mark Ecklund (126), Nick Hudson (132), Roger Williams (138), Zach Reyes (160), Dom Rammelt (170) and Tyler Furlow (195) all won titles for Westfield/Ripley/Chautauqua Lake.

A.J. Putt (106) and Brian Westerdahl (145) were victorious for Maple Grove.

Rounding out the other champions are Hector Colum (103) of Dunkirk/Silver Creek, Eben Torres (182) of Cassadaga Valley and Brad Cunningham (220) of Salamanca.


ORCHARD PARK-Gabe Grey and Alex Kelly had undefeated wrestling records as Cattaraugus-Little Valley/Pine Valley finished second in the Orchard Park Tournament.

Gabe Grey went 5-0 at 138 pounds and Alex Kelly was 4-0 at 170 pounds for C-LV-PV.

Gray defeated Cody Orcutt of Kenmore West, 8-4, pinned Cyrus Simmons of Newfane in 5:32, decisioned Tyler Simmons of Newfane, 11-6, won by forfeit over Tim Connelly of Hamburg and pinned Steve Perchaluk of Orchard Park in 5:27.

Kelly beat teammate Caleb Wares by major decision at 9-0, then, pinned Antonio Montanez of Canisius, 2:24, flattened Scott Holmes of Grand Island, 1:14, and also pinned Jacob Rice of Wilson in 50 seconds.

Randy Gray of Cattaraugus-Little Valley-Pine Valley was 3-1 at 145 pounds by pinning Katrell Jackson of Newfane, 3:01, winning a tie-breaker over Zachary Breeden of Grand Island, 11-10, and taking a 8-0 major decision over Jeffery Mazur of Wilson. He lost to Nate Martin of Newfane by a pin in 3:39.

Dylan Rhinehart of Cattaraugus-Little Valley-Pine Valley posted a 3-1 record at 152 pounds after a disqualification over Tyler Kozlowski of Hamburg, pinning T. J. Glascott of Canisius and a 12-3 major decision over Alex Dowling.

Wares was 3-1 at 170 pounds for Cattaraugus-Little Valley-Pine Valley by defeating Jacob Rice of Wilson, 15-4, pinning Montanez of Canisius in 3:34 and decisioning Scott Holmes of Wilson, 11-7.

Billy Fleming of Cattaraugus-Little Valley-Pine Valley had a 3-1 record by pinning Connor Buhr in 2:56, decisioning William Myers of Orchard Park, 5-3, and winning a major decision over teammate Chris Dolling, 12-2, at 182 pounds.
