JPS Board Discusses Change Orders, Budget Amendments
A relatively light agenda greeted the Jamestown Public Schools Board of Education as it convened for its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday.
The agenda covered routine topics such as change orders, a budget amendment and a BOCES installment purchase agreement, as well as the approval of the 2014-15 budget calendar.
The board approved two change orders as they related to ongoing capital projects at Persell Middle School and the district’s transportation center. An additional $5,769 is required for the installation of ceiling tile in the Persell cafeteria, and an additional $4,764 is required for the installation of a new water softener and to provide bus-washing accessories at the transportation center.
A budget amendment reflecting the inclusion of $15,000 was approved. The funds came from the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts, which submitted the money for use toward Arts in Education programs provided by the Erie 2 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus County BOCES. The district’s 2013-14 budget was modified to include the funds accordingly as additional revenue and associated additional expenses totaling $15,000.
The district was also approved to enter into a five-year contract with Erie 1 BOCES, which commenced Wednesday, authorizing the Western New York Regional Information Center to furnish certain computer services to the district for an amount not to exceed $47,358.60. The district was also authorized for 60 monthly payments to Erie 1 BOCES in an amount not to exceed $789.31.
A separate contract was agreed upon, authorizing the Western New York Regional Information Center to furnish certain computer services to the district for an amount not to exceed $311,831.40. The district was then authorized for 60 monthly payments to Erie 1 BOCES in an amount not to exceed $5,197.19.
Also approved were various personnel items, and Committee for Special Education and Committee for Preschool Special Education minutes. Field trip resolutions were approved for the Jamestown High School varsity basketball team to travel to Niagara Community College from Jan. 3-4, and the JHS varsity baseball team to travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C. from April 12-19.
Board members were also treated to a performance by the JHS A Cappella Choir during the meeting.
