SKANEATELES – The Jamestown Skating Club had a busy weekend.

The local club competed in the 23rd Annual Skaneateles Figure Skating Invitational, hosted in Skaneateles this past weekend. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 32 skating clubs competed in a wide range of events to earn points as individual skaters and as clubs.

According to Ellen Darrow, a Jamestown Skating Club board member, the club finished ninth. The ages of the Jamestown Skating Club members competing ranged from 4 to 19 and each skater brought home at least one medal, according to Menash Petscher, a Jamestown Skating Club member whose daughter competed in the event.

Tonight, Jamestown Skating Club members will be helping with the U.S. Figure Skating’s Skatefest at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena. This free event features celebrity skaters from the Progressive Skating & Gymnastics Spectacular who will provide encouragement and lessons to skaters of all ages and abilities. Registration for the event begins at 3:45 p.m. and the 30-minute group lessons are available at 4:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m., with a 15-minute open skate after each lesson. Only 100 spots are available per session and registration will occur on a first-come, first-serve basis.
