JCC Swimmers Place Fifth At MCC

ROCHESTER-The Jamestown Community College swimming and diving team participate in the Winter Invitational ay Monroe CC with Buffalo State, Oswego, Alfred State, Genesee CC, Herkimer County CC and SUNY Delhi.

The Jayhawks ended up with a combined men’s and women’s fifth-place finish.

“It was great participating in a three-day preliminary, finals championship-type meet that is the same type meet as regionals,” JCC coach Mike Giambruno said. ”It makes for a long three-day weekend with lots of competitive swimming.”

Some highlights for JCC were swims by Camille Follman in the 200 individual medley in 2:31.18 for third place; a fourth place in the 200 freestyle in 2:09.26; and a second place in the 200 backstroke in 2:20.30.

Nicole Mattys had a third place in the 400 individual medley in 5:25.18 and a fourth place in the 200 individual medley in 2:31.47. Reed Porterfield placed second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.76 and third in the 200 breaststroke in 2:29.55.

Phil Tubbs placed third in 1-meter diving with a score of 252.10 and Abbey Milliner tied for third place in the 1 meter diving with a score of 160.5.

“This was a great opportunity to compete against some great swim programs and give the swimmers and divers a taste of what it will be like at regionals,” Giambruno said. ”Three days of swimming is tough, but they did a fantastic job and I’m extremely proud of how we performed.”
