Fee-Waived Adoptions Now Offered By CCHS

Due to overcrowding, the Chautauqua County Humane Society is waiving all fees on cat adoptions of all ages. Once space is created at the shelter, more animals can be accepted and sheltered from the rough climate during the winter months. This promotion will also help with stray cat issues throughout the community.

The fee-waived adoption promotion will be effective until Dec. 21.

“We tend to reach maximum capacity during the winter months,” said Sue Bobek, Humane Society outreach coordinator. “We waive the adoption fees on the cats during this time to help with overcrowding. As more leave our facility, more can come in from the cold,” she said.

CCHS officials waive the $80 adoption fee as an added incentive for community members to make the decision to adopt. As animals leave the shelter, it creates space for more cruelty-case animals, stray animals or others seeking refuge from the cold winter elements.

“All cats will be spayed/neutered, FelV/FIV tested, vaccinated and microchipped,” said Bobek.

Traditional adoption procedures apply during this promotion. Anyone interested in adopting an animal is asked to visit the shelter to fill out an adoption application and meet with an adoption counselor. Certain criteria must be met to be approved for adoption.
