Yaw Shines As Sherman Girls Win CV Tip-Off Tourney

SINCLAIRVILLE -Behind sophomore Bridget Yaw’s outstanding first half, Sherman (2-0) claimed the championship game of the Cassadaga Valley Tip-Off Tournament.

Yaw scored 15 of her game-high 20 points in the first 16 minutes and grabbed 15 rebounds overall as Sherman downed Falconer (1-1), 49-35.

For her efforts, Yaw was named the Most Valuable Player and was joined by teammate Talia Coccarelli, Emma Steele and Abbey Courney of Falconer and Emily Swanson and Amie Adams of Maple Grove on the all-tournament team.

Thanks to Yaw, Sherman was able to build a comanding 27-12 first half-cushion and was never threatened after that.

Talia Coccarelli added 12 points, 11 rebounds, and four steals and Shenley Luden contributed five assists for the Lady Wildcats.

DRAGONS WIN

CONSOLATION

SINCLAIRVILLE – The Maple Grove Lady Red Dragons used a pressure defense which led to several fast-break points in taking down Cassadaga Valley, 60-37, in the consolation game of the Lady Cougars Tip-Off Tournament.

Maple Grove’s Emily Swanson had an all-around stellar performance as she poured in 26 points, added 10 rebounds and four assists.

The Lady Red Dragons built a 15-6 lead after the first quarter and held a commanding 34-15 halftime advantage. The visitors went on to outscore the Lady Cougars, 26-22, in the second half for the win.

Alison Winchester contributed in the win with 13 points and five steals while Ellie Lockwood had 10 points and three steals.

Ashley Repine was Cassadaga Valley’s leading scorer with eight points. Madison Reuther, Meghan Ames and Preslie Johnson each had six points in a losing effort.
