Rails To Trails To Honor Lives Lost

On Dec. 24 at 2:30 p.m., members and friends of Chautauqua Rails to Trails will gather at the Prospect Station Trailhead and hike about 200 yards to commemorate a railroad accident. The accident happened on Christmas Eve in 1841,141 years ago, and cost 20 people their lives. They will meet to remember the accident and the lives of the people lost. All are welcome. Ruchotzke To Speak Sunday

FREDONIA – The Rev. Renee Ruchotzke will be the guest speaker on Sunday in the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of North Chautauqua, in the Grange Hall, 58 W. Main St., Fredonia at the 11 a.m. service. Her topic will be “The Guiding Star.” Ruchotzke is the Central East Regional Group leadership development regional consultant. CERG is a combination of four UU districts. Ruchotzke is responsible for providing consultation, programming and training material, including webinars and videos, on various aspects of congregational leadership development.

To Meet Today

CASSADAGA – The December meeting of the Chautauqua County American Legion will be held today at the Cassadaga Memorial American Legion Post starting at 7:30 p.m. All Legionnaires are urged to attend this meeting.

Legion To Host Meat Party

FREWSBURG – The Frewsburg American Legion will host a meat party tonight, beginning at 7. Giveaways will include cash prizes and a rifle. Available for purchase are steaks, prime ribs, hams, pork loins and turkeys. The legion is at 9 Meadow Lane, Frewsburg. Call 569-3321 for more information.

Young To Appear On Senior Report

MAYVILLE – Senior Report with Reed Powers will have state Sen. Catharine Young as the guest on Saturday’s television program. Young serves the 57th District. The live, call-in program airs from 9-10 a.m. on Saturday morning. Individuals may call 753-5225 during that time with questions or comments. The program is rebroadcast each day at 2 and 8 p.m. for some communities. Reed Powers, host of Senior Report, has been producing the television program since 1995. The series highlights senior citizen club news for 15 minutes with the remainder of the hour-long program devoted to the featured guest. The guest is subject to change.

Rummage Sale Set For Saturday

CHERRY CREEK – The Pine Valley Junior Girls will hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Cherry Creek VFW Post 2522 to raise money for Make A Wish. This is the group’s special project this year.

Meet For Dinner

FREWSBURG – The Carroll Senior Citizens will meet for their annual Christmas dinner, with all the trimmings, at noon Monday, Dec. 16, at the Frewsburg American Legion. The cost is $5 per member and reservations need to be made by Wednesday by calling Mary Himes at 569-6110. The dinner will be followed by the regularly scheduled meeting at 1 p.m.
