Area Police Reports


LAKEWOOD- Christopher Powers, 28, of Randolph, and Dale Wagatha, 31, of Little Valley, were charged with petit larceny on Wednesday at 10:04 p.m. Lakewood-Busti Police responded to Wal-Mart for a report of two subjects stealing merchandise, and upon arrival, officers allegedly located Powers and Wagatha with stolen merchandise. Powers was issued an appearance ticket to appear in Busti Court at a later date. Wagatha was arraigned in Busti Court and remanded to Chautauqua County Jail due to having an outstanding warrant out of Cattaraugus County.

BUSTI- Two men face charges after a traffic stop on Mill Road in Busti. Lakewood-Busti Police officers were on patrol when an officer allegedly observed Keith Haskins, 44, of Russell, Pa., drinking an alcoholic beverage inside a vehicle and the operator, Richard Haskins, 47, of Russell Pa., failing to keep right on the roadway. Upon further investigation, Richard Haskins was allegedly found to be intoxicated. Richard Haskins was charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to keep right, and Keith Haskins was charged with possessing an open container inside a motor vehicle. Both will appear in Busti Court at a later date.


ELLERY- John Near, 55, of Jamestown, was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent or greater and driving while intoxicated on Friday at 5:58 p.m.

NORTH HARMONY- Michael Vehovec, 26, of Mentor-on-the-Lake, Ohio, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana on Saturday at 10:40 a.m.

ELLERY- Raymond Schnars, 40, of North East, Pa., was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana on Saturday at 12:49 p.m.


GLADE- Heather Pierce, 27, and Steven Gaddy, 32, both of Glade, Pa., were charged with simple assault and harassment on Wednesday. The incident started when a 31-year-old victim came home from work to find Pierce allegedly kissing Gaddy. The victim began to allegedly yell at Gaddy, who started to allegedly punch and knee the victim in the face. Pierce allegedly began to punch the victim in the back of the head multiple times. Both were arraigned and committed to Warren County Jail on $15,000 bail.

SHEFFIELD- The Sheffield Middle and High School in Sheffield, Pa., was cited for raising a false alarm for the fifth time in a 12-month period on Saturday at 7:34 a.m.
