Poland Christmas Party Is Saturday

KENNEDY – Kennedy Pride members finalized plans for the townwide Christmas party during their recent meeting.

To be held Saturday from 4-6 p.m. in the Kennedy Fire Hall, it is being co-sponsored with the Town of Poland Recreation Committee. Santa will arrive at 4 p.m. to meet with children of all ages. Photos with Santa will be available. Food and beverages will be provided. The event is free for the community. Many fun activities are planned, and names of those being honored by memorial ornaments will be read.

Members learned that the new sign naming Hallquist Park has been placed on the gazebo. It was made by Chautauqua Sign Company to coordinate with the new “Welcome to Kennedy” signs. It was also learned that the contractor is hoping to be able to erect the new pavilion before the end of the year if the weather cooperates. Several different people will be contacted about building picnic tables for this new pavilion.

Ideas for future events were discussed. Kennedy Pride has held many different types of fundraisers over the years, and whether to bring them back or hold new ones were options. They definitely plan to hold a Victorian Tea again next year.

Since informed that the town would not receive any discount by holding a cleanup day around Earth Day, members felt it might be better to hold the cleanup day in May, when better weather could be expected.

The group again noted the ongoing expense of replacing flags around the community each year. Unlike many places where you see flags flying during the warmer months, the ones around Kennedy and the town of Poland are not supplied by the town. Kennedy Pride purchases the flags every year to continue this patriotic display. Because the flags are exposed to the elements all summer long, they only last one or two years.

Due to the holiday season, Kennedy Pride will not hold a regular meeting in December following the Christmas party. The next meeting of Kennedy Pride will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 6:30 p.m. in the Kennedy Free Library. Everyone is welcome to come, and to offer any ideas for future community projects.
