Low-Pressure Atmosphere At Chautauqua Music
After celebrating both a successful reopening and a 40th anniversary this year, Chautauqua Music is quickly becoming an integral aspect of the arts community.
Chautauqua Music is set to host a student recital on Friday at 6 p.m. The event, which is open to the public, will feature performances by students of Spencer Drake, guitar instructor.
Each student will perform one to three songs of his or her choice. Performers include: Michael Philips, guitar and vocals; Asa Dunmore, guitar and vocals; Russ DeLonge, guitar and vocals; Jessie Wolf, bass guitar; Rich Moon, guitar; Alex Disbro, guitar; McKayla Brooks, guitar and vocals; Jordan Clarke, vocals and guitar; Carol Drake, tenor saxophone; and Aaron Jacoby. Following the student recital, the band Flashback, which features Drake on guitar and vocals and Jeff Bucklin on guitar and vocals, will perform classic rock from the 1970s-’80s.
According to Drake, event organizer, although the recital is not a requirement for his students, it’s an opportunity to perform for an audience of their family and friends.
“It’s good for their self-esteem because they can demonstrate what they’ve learned in a supportive and fun environment,” Drake said. “I think this is a feel good event for the community because they can support young people and adults doing something positive and fun – it’s great to see both young people and adults achieving a goal together.”
The event creates a low-pressure atmosphere where the performers can focus on having fun, instead of being perfect, Drake said.
“They don’t have to be perfect, they just do their best and most importantly have fun,” Drake said. “But, it also shows that there are a lot of talented people in our area.”
