JCA To Host Symphoria Dec. 4

Jamestown Concert Association will present Symphoria once again visiting the city with its popular seasonal performance of light classics and holiday pops. The concert will take place in the festively decorated Reg Lenna Civic Center, 116 Third St., on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m.

Symphoria was founded by the dedicated musicians of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra after the reorganization process. Their mission is to build an appreciation for symphonic music through the sponsorship and presentation of orchestra concerts.

Popular maestro Sean O’Loughlin will be conducting the symphony orchestra. A composer, as well as arranger, O’Loughlin has led performances with the Boston Pops, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Atlanta Symphony and other prestigious orchestras. His music is characterized by vibrant rhythms, passionate melodies and colorful scoring. He is a fresh voice and rising name in the music world. Recent collaborations include such artists as Sarah McLachlan, Adele, Josh Groban, Kelly Clarkson, Blue Man Group, Itzhak Perlman, Natalie Merchant, Gloria Estefan and others. An annual ASCAP Special Awards winner, O’Loughlin was a composition fellow at the Henry Mancini Institute in Los Angeles, and holds composition degrees from New England Conservatory and Syracuse University.

Vocalist Tish Oney will be performing with Symphoria. She is also an arranger, pianist, and composer for several internationally-touring productions. Oney holds a DMA in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California, Thornton School of Music. Oney’s CD “Sweet Youth” (Blujazz), attained international recognition. She has headlined at Earshot Jazz Festival, The Dennis Bono Show at Sam’s Town Casino, Syracuse Jazzfest, Wilson Center for the Arts, Chapman Cultural Center and has performed at Michael Feinstein’s elite Park Avenue cabaret and Feinstein’s at Loews Regency in New York. Earlier this year Oney was awarded a grant from the USC Upstate Department of Research and Sponsored Awards to develop two nationally touring symphony shows. Oney serves as director of vocal studies, director of jazz studies and coordinator of commercial music at University of South Carolina Upstate.

The program for the evening will include the Peter Pan Suite, music from “It’s a Wonderful Life” and traditional favorites.

Tickets for the concert are $25 for adults, $20 seniors and $7.50 for college students. Students 18 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.
