Margaret A. “Marg” Rooney

Margaret A. “Marg” Rooney, 73, of 3073 Open Meadows Road, Ashville, N.Y., passed away at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, in her home.

A lifelong area resident, she was born Feb. 29, 1940, in the town of North Harmony, a daughter of the late Albert and Erma Odell Fardink.

Marg was a 1956 graduate of Southwestern Central High School and attended Open Meadows United Methodist Church.

Before her retirement in 2004, she was employed as a nurse’s aide at the former Manor Oak Skilled Nursing Facility in Jamestown for 30 years.

She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who loved watching birds from her country home.

Surviving are her husband William L. Rooney, whom she married Nov. 23, 1974; two daughters: Donna (David) Shagla of Sugar Grove, Pa., and Marjorie (Anthony) Siliano of Ashville, N.Y.; a son, Charles Dean Jr. of Jamestown; two stepchildren: William Rooney and Debbie Ruby, both of Jamestown; six grandchildren: David Shagla and Julie Destro, both of Sugar Grove, John Siliano and Tiffany Barrus, both of Jamestown, and Brandon Siliano and Stephanie SilianoButts, both of Ashville; 15 greatgrandchildren; two brothers: Charles Fardink of Ashville and Garrett Fardink of Jamestown; and two sisters: Amy Hayes of Randolph, N.Y., Alberta Allenson of Jamestown.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Dean, and a greatgranddaughter, Kira Barrus.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Bill Leslie, chaplain of Hospice Chautauqua County, will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Ashville, N.Y.

Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday in the funeral home.
