Mayville Board Encourages Local Shopping This Season
MAYVILLE – At the Mayville Village Board meeting, a resolution was passed encouraging area residents to shop locally, in support of area businesses. Beginning on Black Friday a banner proclaiming Shoptauqua Week will be flown in the Mayville business district to encourage this support.
Plans are underway for the 2014 Presidents Day Weekend Winter Festival to be held on Feb. 14-16. The ice castle will, weather permitting, be built by volunteers with the assistance and supervision of Mayville DPW crews.
The board authorized the mayor to enter into a concession agreement with the local Chamber of Commerce for the summertime Entertainment in the Park series, which will be scheduled for Thursday evenings in the summertime of 2014.
The board authorized the Mayville Fire Department to sell tickets to give away two sets of Christmas-themed trains. All proceeds will be added to the Mayville Fire Company Community Fund. Tickets will be sold in the village office.
In other business, Taylor Stursa was hired as a permanent DPW employee and Joshua Short, an apprentice lineman, was given a raise in pay based on his completion of a second year of required training. Mayor Martin Bova was authorized to act for the village in all matters relating to state assistance from the Department of Environmental Conservation. This allows the mayor to make application for grants related to water quality matters.
