Dunkirk Hunter Found Dead
DUNKIRK – A 69-year-old Dunkirk man who was hunting in the local area was found dead Saturday evening as a result of natural causes.
According to the New York State Police at Fredonia, troopers were contacted after a family member found John Kucharski Jr. deceased in a tree stand on family property.
Kucharski’s family became concerned after he failed to return home from a day of hunting. After a short search was conducted, Kucharski was located in a tree stand approximately 20 feet in the air.
The Associated Press reports Kucharski and the family member, who was Kucharski’s son-in-law, had started out hunting on the son-in-law’s property on Urban Road in the town of Dunkirk at 6 a.m.
Kucharski had known health conditions and was pronounced dead by Chautauqua County Coroner Warren Riles, who also responded to the scene.
The East Dunkirk Fire and Rescue Squad assisted at the scene and with traffic control.
