Harland Chester Luce

Harland Chester Luce, 87, of Winchester, Va., died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, in Winchester Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 2, 1925, in Levant, N.Y., the son of Hubert and Caroline Lindquist Luce.

He was married to Florence Lorraine Luce who is deceased.

Mr. Luce retired as an auto mechanics instructor with Dowell J. Howard Vocational School in Winchester.

He was a member of the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, the Winchester Moose Lodge, and was a volunteer at Winchester Medical Center.

He was an avid card player, and enjoyed traveling and visiting, hunting and fishing.

Surviving are a daughter, Barbara A. VanSickler and her husband, Christopher of Winchester; two brothers: Roy Luce and his wife, Margaret of Florida, and Lee Luce and his wife, Barbara of New York; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Luce of New York; and six nieces and nephews.

A brother, Ivan Luce, is deceased.

A funeral service will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, Winchester with Pastor Phillip Roby officiating.

Honorary bearers will be Brent Lockhart, Bryan Lockhart, Brock Lockhart, Matthew Bucher, Mike Butler and Jim Hodges.

Friends will be received on Monday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.
