Michael Edward Travis
Michael Edward Travis, 67, of Chautauqua Road, Fredonia, N.Y., passed away at his home on Sunday morning, Nov. 10, 2013, from injuries sustained in a farming accident.
Michael was born in Brocton, N.Y., on Aug. 12, 1946, and was the son of the late William Travis and Esther Wolnik Travis.
He lived most of his life in the area, but spent the late 1980s and early 1990s in Utah, returning to this area to live in 1996.
He was a graduate of Colorado State University where he received his master’s degree in wildlife biology. He also served his country in the U.S, Marine Corps, and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a self-employed contractor by trade.
In 2000, Michael bought his farm, where he pursued his interests in gardening and animals. He spent a lot of time in his gardens and his produce was shared around town. His animals consisted of dogs, cats, chickens, a peacock and any stray that took a fancy to his farm.
He was known as a generalist and seemed to know a little bit about every-thing. He was always helping out others and was never to busy to lend an ear. He was a talented painter and much in demand around town. He also enjoyed cooking and canning and made maple syrup every spring. He loved spending time and sharing his life and interests with his son Alec, passing on all that he knew.
Mike is survived by his son, Alec Travis-Daugherty of Portland, N.Y.; Alec’s mother, Rebecca Daugherty-Clementson of Portland, N.Y.; his mother, Esther Travis of Brocton, N.Y.; a sister, Charlotte McCorry of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two brothers: Richard Travis of Portland, N.Y., and Steven Travis of Florida.
