Richard E. Bailey
CATTARAUGUS – Richard E. Bailey, 81, of Leon Road, passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at Olean General Hospital.
He was born July 1, 1932, in Gowanda, N.Y., the son of the late James and Minerva (Witherell) Bailey. On June 4, 1954, he married the former Mary Hebert who survives.
Mr. Bailey was the service manager at Illig’s Chevrolet in Cattaraugus, N.Y., starting in 1950 until his retirement. He also was a Korean War veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-56.
He was a member of the Little Valley American Legion, Cattaraugus Volunteer Fire Department, Cattaraugus Ambulance Service, Gowanda Moose Club and Only the Best Club for 25 years with General Motors.
Besides his wife of 59 years, he is survived by a son, Jeffery Bailey of Saucier, Miss.; six grandchildren; and 13 great- grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Donald L. (Brenda) Bailey of Cattaraugus, N.Y.; a sister, Diana (Fred) Mansour of Little Valley, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Charles Bailey; and a grandson, Jeffery Eugene Bailey.
Friends may call at the Mentley Funeral Home Inc. 411 Rock City St., Little Valley, N.Y., on Thursday Nov. 14, 2013, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at 11 a.m. from the funeral home.
Burial will be in Little Valley Rural Cemetery.
