Journey To Active Aging
The sixth annual Journey to Active Aging Workshop and Luncheon was held recently at the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club.
More than 100 local people heard a presentation by keynote speaker Dr. Steve Dofitas of Dent Neurologic Institute. His presentation was titled “Keeping Your Brain Healthy as You Age.” In addition, Amy Livengood presented material on brain games and how they are helpful as well as regular physical activity. The group also heard from Det. Dan Forsberg from the Chautauqua County Drug Task Force. He discussed the importance of keeping medication safe and knowing what medications someone is taking. Finally, Dave Carlberg of Patient’s Pharmacy addressed proper use of medication and how mixing medications can cause confusion in the brain.
The committee included Debbie Basile of the Lutheran and RSVP/Foster Grandparents Program; Janell Sluga, Lutheran – Senior Life Matters; Lisa Goodell, Chautauqua Vision Rehabilitation Services; and Judi Goerke, Chautauqua Physical & Occupational Therapy. They presented Dofitas with a $500 check to be used for brain research. The donation was to show the group’s gratitude to the Dent Neurologic Institute for allowing Dofitas to speak at the program.
