JCC Swim Teams Are Winners In Home Pool

The Jamestown Community College swimming and diving team hosted Genesee CC in an NJCAA dual meet Wednesday night, and the Jayhawks came away with both a men’s and women’s win.

The men outscored Genesee, 91-62, while the women got the best of GCC, 116-42.

Some fine performances were recorded by the JCC swimmers and divers. Eric Masood had a time of 24.69 in the 50-yard freestyle; Reed Porterfield went 1:0683 in the 100 breaststroke; Lou Wernick went a 13:06 in the 1,000 freestyle; and Phil Tubbs won the diving with 252 points.

On the women’s side, Camille Follman had a nice time of 1:06.38 in the 100 backstroke; Nicole Mattys posted a 6:00.50 in the 500 freestyle; Vicky Matteson went 1:16.53 in the 100 butterfly for a second place; and Brittany Green went 14:30.90 in the 1,000 freestyle. The women also won the 200 medley and freestyle relays in 2:21.17 and 1:59.02 respectively.

The men won the final race of the night, the 200 freestyle in 1:43.56.

“Not a bad first outing for the swimmers and divers. JCC coach Mike Giambruno said. ”The times will improve over the season. I’m not overly concerned about that right now. We just wanted to come out our first regular meet and see where we stand. I’m always happy with a win and we’ll continue to improve every day.”
