The Rev. Richard Paul Doud
SPRINGVILLE – The
Rev. Richard Paul Doud, 82, of Newman Street, Springville, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, in the Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville.
The Rev. Doud was born July 13, 1931, in Cherry Creek, N.Y., on the Hadley family farm, the son of the late Paul A. and Sadie L. Hadley Doud. Mr. Doud was a 1951 graduate of Randolph Central School.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, in which he proudly served from September 1951 to January 1955 and was installed into the Seabees in 1952. Following his military service, he married the love of his life Donna Arrance Doud on Sept. 10, 1955, when he was honorably discharged.
He worked for Jamestown Automatic Voting Machine from 1956-78. He then went on to work in his true passion, ministry. Pastor Doud served numerous churches including; Open Meadows UMC (1973), Sardinia UMC (1979), Salamanca Kissinger Memorial (1981), Peoples UMC (1981), Knowlesville UMC (1983), Eagle Harbor UMC (1983), Hornell East Avenue UMC (1988) and South Dansville UMC (1988). He also was active with his Uncle Billy Clown Ministry, was a Boy Scout master, youth counselor at Camp Findley, served in prison ministry, participated with RISE people, was a member of the Western New York Methodist Conference, was a member of the Chaffee Sardinia Fire Department and currently attended the Springville UMC.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Donna Arrance Doud of Springville; five children: Valerie Jackson and husband George of Summerville, S.C., LaVern Doud and wife Karen of Baldwinsville, N.Y., Theresa Chase of Springville, David Doud and wife Joann of Palmyra, N.Y., and Dale Doud and wife Mary of East Concord, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Niles and Archie Doud.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant grandson and three brothers: Calvin K., Wilbur A. and Jesse M. Doud.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Springville United Methodist Church, where the family will be received one hour prior. The Rev. Jerry Piper, pastor of Knapp Creek UMC in Olean and the Rev. Abel Roy, pastor of Springville UMC will officiate. Burial will be in the Steamburg Cemetery, Steamburg, N.Y. at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
