Edwards Will Not Veto County Budget

MAYVILLE – Chautauqua County Executive Greg Edwards has announced that he will not be vetoing the 2014 budget as amended by the Chautauqua County Legislature.

“Upon review and analysis of the changes made it is abundantly clear that the professional team of leaders in my administration has once again done an excellent job in preparing the 2014 budget for our county,” said Edwards. “The quality of my tentative budget is highlighted by the fact that after over a month of committee meetings and deliberations, the legislature made amendments totaling only 2.7 percent.”

After completing their monthlong review and analysis of Edwards’ 2014 Tentative Budget, the County Legislature made amendments to the budget that were approved at their Oct. 23 legislature meeting. Some of the changes included in the amendments were the elimination of $1.05 million in IGT funding for the Chautauqua County Home, the decrease in the investment in senior programs from $500,000 to $250,000, and the decrease in the Safety Net Program by $348,000.

Edwards also noted that the county legislature may decide to restore the IGT funding outside of the budget process by withdrawing the money from the County Fund Balance.

“If the IGT funding is restored by using the County Fund Balance, as it was done by the legislature in 2011 and 2012, the total changes to my tentative budget would only be 1.1 percent,” said Edwards.
