Already Looking Forward To Next Year’s Marathon

To The Reader’s Forum:

To the runners, volunteers, and the entire community of the Greater Jamestown Area:

On behalf of the staff and boards of directors of Chautauqua Striders, the Lucy Desi Center for Comedy, and the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena, we would like to sincerely thank all of you for making the Inaugural Lucy Town Half Marathon and 5K a rousing success!

The enthusiasm was high as 710 runners from 27 states and Canada approached the starting lines for the 5K on Saturday, Oct. 12th and the Half Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 13th. The event couldn’t have been successful without the help from the hundreds of volunteers and the many spectators lining the race routes. We would particularly like to thank the citizens and City of Jamestown, and the citizens and Villages of Celoron and Lakewood for being such gracious hosts. The police and volunteer fire departments in these communities played an integral role in the success of the weekend as well.

Our title sponsor for the race, Univera Healthcare, was the first to step up and support this event – giving us the endorsement in our first year that allowed us to kick off strongly. Our other major sponsors, WCA Hospital, The Legend Group, Jamestown Pediatrics, JAMA and TV media sponsor YNN also helped make the weekend possible. Special thanks to Wegmans, Tim Hortons Caf & Bake Shop, Pepsi, Jamestown Savings Bank, Jamestown Primary Care, Jamestown Mattress, Southern Tier Dentistry, Arthur R Gren Co., Brigiotta’s, Phil Bemis, The Keeney Family, Shults Auto Group, Media One Group, KIX Country 96.5, Jamestown Gazette, Jamestown Post-Journal and Chautauqua Physical & Occupational Therapy for their contributions.

As comedy legend Martin Short exclaimed to a packed house at our own beautiful Reg Lenna theater, “I love Jamestown, and I LOVE LUCY!” We couldn’t agree more, and want to again say THANK YOU and look forward to the second annual Lucy Town Half Marathon and 5K October 11th & 12th, 2014!

Sincerely,

Journey Gunderson
