Community Recreation

Recently, the senior day program participants at the TAFT Center of the Chautauqua Adult Day Care Centers Inc. wanted to do a project to help out in the community and decided to donate shredded paper to the Humane Society in Jamestown. The participants traveled to the Humane Society with four bags of shredded paper for the shelter and then proceeded to tour the shelter to view how volunteers and staff work to provide care and shelter to their animals. The shredded paper is useful for many purposes within the shelter particularly for animals that don’t otherwise have blankets and are in need of bedding for their cages.

The Chautauqua County Humane Society Inc., SPCA is dedicated to promoting the adoption of animals, preventing all forms of cruelty and neglect, sheltering lost, abandoned, and homeless animals, and providing education about the humane treatment of animals to the community. The site houses more than 200 animals daily who are looking for loving homes.

The participants traveled as a part of the Community Recreation Program offered by the center which helps individuals participate in outings within the community. This outing was organized by SUNY Social Work program intern, Jillian Markham, who is working at the Chautauqua Adult Day Care Taft and Present Center programs.

“It was a fun and rewarding outing for the participants,” Markham said. “They felt good about helping out the Humane Society and thoroughly enjoyed the tour and getting to see the animals at the shelter.”
