LAKEWOOD – In a mass market economy, finding unique, affordable items can be difficult. As can finding unique American-made items. On Tuesday at 11 a.m. though, Shabi in Lakewood will be opening its doors offering just that.
Twenty years ago, Shabi started out as a no-appointments-necessary tailor shop.
While the store continues this tradition, Shabi has added an artisan gift shop and a soap and lotion bar to the services it offers.
“I decided to add it so that I can put items in here that are not bought from a vendor. They are not shipped in from China,” said Debi Manning. “Everything is either made by hand, from scratch or it’s upcycled to like new condition.”
The Artisan Gift Shop supports the surrounding artistic community, she said.
“For example, my handmade soaps and lotions-for these people it’s their full-time job,” Manning said. “They still do it out of their home, they produce a luscious product. I mean these are just wonderful, and everyone who has bought something from the soap and lotions bar has come back for seconds.”
In addition to the soap and lotion bar, Shabi also carries original artwork, handpainted and resorted furniture, reupholstered furniture accent pieces, handmade down and feather pillows, custom window treatments, handrolled beeswax candles and many other items.
“It is all one-of-a-kind stuff,” she said.
Shabi can be found at 106 Chautauqua Ave. in Lakewood. The store will be open from Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Manning can be reached at 763-3272 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
