The Real Deal

More than 800 area residents gathered at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena Friday night to witness the Legends of Wrestling take the ring.

The event featured more muscle than most can handle from a number of World Wrestling Entertainment legends, such as Rowdy Roddy Piper, “The Mouth From The South” Jimmy Hart, Tatanka, X-Pac, Marty Jannetty, Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake, The Reinforcer, The Patriot, Bushwhacker Luke, The Highlanders and Jon Bolen.

The event also featured some local and regional up-and-comers such as The Buzzsaw, The Aftermath, “Simply Sexy Shawn Blaze” and others.

According to Hart, Jamestown fans had much in store for them, and could expect the unexpected.

“Look at all these great fans here coming down memory lane to get autographs – this is the real deal right here,” Hart said. “This is what I love, up close and personal. It’s a freezing night outside tonight, and football is on, but they’re here – we love these guys.”

“We’re on the ice – so we’re cool,” Beefcake added.

Elizabeth Miller, of Jamestown, brought her son, Kameron and his friends Jesse, Charles and Eric.

“I was really excited to see the older wrestlers – it’s what I watched when I was younger,” Miller said. “And, now these little guys watch the new wrestlers.”

Miller brought her son, Kameron as a gift for his birthday. His favorite wrestlers include Tatanka, Hulk Hogan, Goldust and The Undertaker.

“I’m excited to see fighting,” Kameron said.

Jeffery Huling, of Jamestown, brought a championship belt with him to have all the wrestlers sign. He was most excited to see X-Pac, and to have him sign “suck it” on the belt, he said.

According to Kurt Silcott, chief executive officer for the arena, although the arena was not packed to capacity, those who attended the event were happy they did.

“We’re pretty pleased to bring it here to Jamestown -there’s some classic guys and big names in this show,” Silcott said. “The people who are here are really enjoying themselves – that’s what’s important.”
