Previously-Undefeated Lady T-Birds Upset By Forestville In Class D

MAYVILLE – The upset of the girls volleyball season took place in Mayville.

Ninth-seeded Forestville (14-6) upset No. 1 and previously-undefeated Chautauqua Lake (16-1) in five games in the Section 6 Class D quarterfinals on Tuesday night, 17-25, 25-23, 25-23, 16-25, 25-19.

Forestville now goes to No. 4 Portville, which beat Silver Creek, 3-1, Friday at 6 p.m. in the semifinal round.

This was the third meeting between Forestville and Chautauqua Lake this season with the latter winning the first two.

Sierra Tweedie had 16 kills, 17 digs and seven aces for the winners. Alisha Szumigala had seven kills, 12 digs, three aces; Lizzy Gilman recorded seven kills, five digs and Ashley VanBuskirk had 49 assists and three aces.

In defeat, Jenna Einink had 35 kills, three aces, 16 digs and two blocks; Ashton Albanesius had 19 kills, an ace and 12 digs; Tara Hunt had four kills, an ace, three digs and 27 assists; Katie Meadows had four aces, seven digs and 32 assists; and Ryleigh Hawkins had five kills, four aces and eight digs.

MAYCOCK STARS

RANDOLPH – McKenna Maycock put together another strong performance with 38 kills, 19 digs and three aces as No. 2 Randolph (18-2) bested No. 7 Cattaraugus-Little Valley (15-5), 26-24, 25-17, 24-26, 26-23.

Now the Lady Cardinals host No. 3 Ellicottville (15-4) in the semifinals on Friday at 6 p.m.

Alexis Terrette had 14 assists, Miranda Gross also delivered 14 assists and Sierra Farmer had five kills and five blocks for the Lady Cardinals.

For Cattaraugus-Little Valley, Sarah Crandall recorded 34 kills, 19 digs and five aces; Jessica Pritchard had 16 kills and eight digs; and Alyssa Goodwill had 45 assists and nine digs.

SCANLON LEADS WAY

ELLICOTTVILLE – Courtney Scanlon had 41 kills, seven digs, and three blocks as No. 3 Ellicottville (15-4) got past No. 6 North Collins (10-6), 25-16, 24-26, 25-20, 25-22.

Marissa Hamilton recorded 36 assists 11 digs and three kills, and Amber Davies 10 digs for the winners.

Nicole Torrey had six kills and five aces, Jasmine Falcov picked up 11 kills and Angelo Falcov 14 kills for North Collins.

PORTVILLE ADVANCES

PORTVILLE – Led by Shaina Griffin, No, 4 Portville eliminated No. 12 Silver Creek, 3-1.

Griffin had 14 kills, 14 digs and five aces in the victory.
