First Runner-Up

The Jamestown High School Marching Band received a warm welcome home Monday.

In the Jefferson Middle School parking lot, three buses full of JHS Marching Band members were cheered on by friends and family with shouts, honking horns and encouraging signs.

At the annual New York State Field Band Conference Championship on Sunday, the JHS Marching Band placed second out of the seven bands in their division. The competition was held at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.

Marching Band Director Meghan Murray was pleased with her band’s results. “(We performed) excellently,” she said with smile. She also added that the band had not earned a second place finish in nearly 10 years; last year the band placed fourth.

Drum majors Jacob Sandstrom and Madison Walker-Blake were equally ecstatic about second place. As conductors of the band, both regarded the second place finish as “an honor.”

The JHS Marching Band has performed at the New York State Field Band Conference Championship for more than 30 years.
