If you know a veteran who is still serving their country today or one who served many years ago, there is an event next month to recognize their patriotic work.
At 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, the Family Church Jamestown will be hosting an event at the Reg Lenna Civic Center, 116 E. Third St., to honor veterans. Stephanie Hofert, Family Church Jamestown office manager, said this is the first time church officials have hosted the Veterans Day event.
”We want to give back to the community, and give back to our veterans who have served and given their lives to us,” she said. ”It will be an appreciation service. There will be patriotic music, Pastor Tim Stahlman will speak and we’re going to honor the veterans with plaques and gift cards. Then after the event, we invite everyone back to Family Church for a reception afterwards.”
Hofert said church officials are looking to honor 100 veterans. Wing City Grille has donated $25 gift cards for each veteran nominated. To nominate someone, call 487-1712 or email email@example.com, and include the veteran’s first and last name, a phone number and where they served. All nominations need to be received by Friday, Nov. 1.
”We’ve had plenty of people sign up already, and we’re expecting a great turnout,” she said. ”We just want to get the word out to all local veterans. Also, if they are still serving, please call and we would like to honor them too.”
Admission is free to the event.
