Robert M. Smith
CHERRY CREEK – Robert M. Smith, 87, a welder for Excelco, where he worked for many years, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at his home on Southside Avenue in Cherry Creek, N.Y.
He was born May 20, 1926, in Cherry Creek, N.Y., the son of the late Merle and Eunice (Moore) Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Toshie Saito Smith of Cherry Creek, N.Y.; five sons: Melvin R. (Linda) Smith of Wilmington, N.C., Lynn M. (Cynthia) Smith of Silver Creek, N.Y., Christopher (Amy) Smith of Amherst, N.Y., Ronald P. (Pamela) McCabe of Frederick, Md., and Raymond N. (Barbara) McCabe of Kenmore, N.Y.; two daughters: Elizabeth A. (John) Dedloff of Gowanda, N.Y., and Cynthia R. (William) Raub of Friendship, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren: two greatgrandchildren; a brother, Melvin Smith of Cherry Creek, N.Y., and a sister, Donna Nobles of South Dayton.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathryn Smith.
He served in the Navy during World War II and the South Dayton Legion Post 1593 and the Pine Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars will provide military honor guard for his service.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at noon at Hills Funeral Chapel, 478 Balcom Corners, South Dayton, N.Y. His son, Pastor Melvin Smith of Inner City Ministries, will officiate. Burial will be in the Cherry Creek Central Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at on Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon.
