Richard A. Nelson

FREWSBURG – Richard A. Nelson, 78, of Warren Road, died Wednesday (Oct. 16, 2013) at WCA Hospital.

He was born Feb. 9, 1935, in Corry, Pa., the son of Lyal and Loretta Pangborn Nelson.

Dick was the owner of Nelson Brothers Excavating in Frewsburg.

He was raised a Mason in Carroll Lodge 1147 F&AM, Frewsburg and elected a 32nd degree Mason in the Jamestown Consistory.

Dick enjoyed going to tractor pulls and antique equipment shows. Dick had utmost knowledge of trucks and enginerelated equipment and had countless people request his advice about heavy equipment.

He will be greatly missed for his expertise on heavy equipment and diesel engines.

He had most recently been shipping dozens of log skidders to Bosnia.

Dick was survived by his wife, Shirley Mason Nelson; four children: Michael A. and Martin L. Nelson, Elizabeth A. “Betsy” DeRosa of Frewsburg, and Susan M. Nelson of Genoa, Ohio; six grandchildren: Chad M., Amy M., Lyle R. and Hunter A. Nelson, Amanda F. Kelley, and Colleen M. Finley; five greatgrandchildren: and a sister, Mary Jane Courter of Frewsburg.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Michael J. Nelson.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg. The Rev. Ronald Lemon, pastor of the Koinonia Christian Fellowship, will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Frewsburg. The family will receive friends from 68 p.m. Saturday in the funeral Home.
