JCC Women, Men Post Road Soccer Victories
ORCHARD PARK – Thanks to Sam Mann, Jamestown Community College completed its regular-season women’s soccer schedule on a high note on Wednesday afternoon in extremely windy conditions.
Mann scored two second-half goals to run her total to 15 this year as the Jayhawks toppled Erie CC, 2-0, to raise their record to 8-5 overall and 4-3 in the NJCAA Region 3 Division III.
After a scoreless first half, Mann opened the scoring at seven minutes on a pass from Megan Lundy for her 14th goal of the season for a 1-0 JCC lead. With five minutes remaining, Mann converted a pass from Jordan Ahlstrom for her 15th goal this year.
Kaitlin Knott recorded the shutout, making three saves.
JCC will play either Hudson Valley CC or Broome CC in the Region 3 playoff opener on Saturday at an undetermined site.
ORCHARD PARK – Mike Morris was the hero as Jamestown Community College men’s soccer team overcame a two-goal deficit to win.
Morris sped past two defenders and fired home a shot from eight yards out with only a minute remaining to give the Jayhawks a come-from-behind 3-2 victory in NJCAA Region 3, Division III action.
JCC has an 8-5 overall record and is 4-2-2 in the Western Division.
For Morris, the goal was his fourth of the season and capped a three-goal outburst in the second half.
At 12 minutes, Nico Berungrud scored off a penalty kick to slice JCC margin to 2-1. Berungrud has four goals this season. Ethan Ahlstrom tied it up at 2-2 at 24 minutes with a header off of a corner kick from Ryan Houghtalen for his second goal of the season to set the stage for Morris’ goal.
Erie CC (3-4-1, 6-8-1) got off to a 2-0 start in the first half on goals by Mark Tellgren at four minutes and Eric Overhoff at 14 minutes.
Tyler Dykstra made six saves for JCC and Brandon Hackbarth had nine stops for ECC.
JCC has a non-league road game against the Medaille College reserves at 10 a.m. Sunday.
