Enchante Brings World-Class Entertainment To Olean
OLEAN – As nature goes into that stage of hibernation, that inevitable change of season is accompanied with tales of witches and of monsters. To make that more of a reality, an original tale of that story will be presented in Olean for those who are looking for an entertainment outlet.
The Hammerback Bar at Good Times of Olean will be the home to two performances of a production of an original piece from Bradford’s Enchante Cabaret. Enchante boasts of six original shows, each with its own season, but the fall season, the Halloween season, is the time of the longest-running show, “Witches Brew.”
“The show is in its seventh season,” writer and co creator of Enchante Cabaret, John D. Attanasio, said. “It is an original story that fuses popular music to tell the tale. It is truly a performance of world-class singing, writing and performing that will be a fun journey for the audience. We hope to take the audience on an emotional ride with the cast and the storyline.”
The story follows a witch that wants to create a brew to make everyday Halloween. She summons three lost souls to help her on her way. Details are scarce, as Attanasio said he wanted to keep the ending a surprise for the audience.
In writing the piece, Attanasio, who claims to call Halloween his favorite holiday of the year, said the show offers adults a chance for some good entertainment during the course of the season.
“This is our attempt to help people get into the spirit of the time of the year,” he said. “It’s really not an evil show with witchcraft and all, but it does have a witch in it.”
There are many Twin Tiers connections on the stage for the Bradford-based troupe.
“Todd Wagner, our vocal lead, vocal extraordinaire, is from Bradford,” he said. “Then we have Sharon Backof, our Witch, is from Allegany, N.Y., Lauren Law, the musical director, is a Salamanca native, and I am born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., but have been living in Bradford for about 10 years. I feel like a native.”
The show will be performed 26 times this year, concluding with a performance in Toms River, N.J. The performers have been working at their parts since early September, Attanasio said. Since the start of the month, the cast has been on tour through Ohio, Pennsylvania and will soon hit several points in New Jersey.
Performances at Good Times of Olean are Saturday and Sunday. The $40 admission is for more than the show. Those in attendance can partake in a 5:30 p.m. cocktail hour, followed by a buffet dinner at 6:30. The show is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. Witches Brew is a two-hour show with an intermission at the midpoint.
