Elizabeth A. “Betty” Canon

GERRY – Elizabeth A. “Betty” Canon, 97, of Heritage Village, died Wednesday, Oct, 9, 2013, at the Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.

She was born June 20, 1916, in Preston Township, Pa., the daughter of the late Carroll and Esther Lloyd Reynolds.

She was a 1934 graduate of Preston High School, 1945 graduate of Wilson Memorial Hospital Nursing School as an registered nurse, attended Columbia University Teachers College from 194748 and was a 1962 graduate of Roberts Wesleyan College with a Bachelor of Science in religion and psychology.

Betty was a missionary in Latin America with the Free Methodist Church for 34 years, retiring in 1984. She moved to Heritage Village in 1985.

She was a member of the Gerry Free Methodist Church, W.C.T.U., W.M.I., served on the Missions Committee, taught Sunday School and was a member of the Rodeo City Senior Citizens.

Wife of 21 years to the late the Rev. C. Howard Canon Jr., whom she married Sept. 21, 1985, and who died May 22, 2007; stepmother of Charles H. Canon III of Wyoming, and the late Evajane Schmitt; stepgrandmother of four; sister of Grace Burke of Greenville, S.C., and the late Lynn and Lloyd Reynolds; aunt of Barb Stiles, Lloyd, Larry and the late Lynn Reynolds.

Funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Seeley Auditorium, Heritage Village, Gerry, with one hour of visitation prior. Burial in Starrucca Cemetery, Starrucca, Pa.

Memorials to may be made to the Gerry Free Methodist Church, Heritage Village or Free Methodist World Missions.
