JCC Soccer Teams Fall To Genesee CC

BATAVIA – ”Genesee Community College is a very good team and it took the game away from us,” said Jamestown Community College coach Pat Anderson after the Jayhawks (3-2-2, 7-5-3) lost a 4-2 decision on Wednesday afternoon in men’s NJCAA Region 3, Division III soccer.

Genesee is 8-4 on the season and its losses are to highly-regarded Division II and Division III schools.

The first two goals of the first half went to Genesee. Just three minutes in, George Anthony scored on an assist by Aaron Dukes. With 10 minutes left in the half, Austin Richardson scored on a direct kick. Genesee scored again to make it 3-0 on goal by Ben Polk off an assist from Sean Hales at six minutes of the second half.

JCC’s Ryan Houghtalen scored his first goal of the season from Jorge Duron at eight minutes to break the shutout and cut the deficit to 3-1.

Nathan Rose restored Genesee lead to three goals at 4-1 with a breakaway at 25 minutes,

Alijhiah Minor of JCC recorded his third goal of the year from Kisun Peters at 20 minutes to end the scoring.

Tyler Dykstra made seven saves in the JCC goal and backup Brenton Walker added three saves. Sean Allen made five saves for Genesee.

JCC entertains Niagara County CC at 2 p.m., Saturday.



BATAVIA – Despite the outstanding performance of Kylie Wilson, Jamestown Community College women’s soccer team fell to Genesee CC (7-2), 5-3, in NJCAA Region 3, Division III action on Wednesday.

Wilson scored three goals, but was it wasn’t enough as JCC dropped to 2-3 in the region and 5-5 overall.

Wilson tallied her first five minutes in on an assist from Sam Mann to give JCC a 1-0 lead.

Dana Hanson recorded two for Genesee. Ashley Mankowski scored to make it 3-1 for Genesee CC with 10 minutes remaining.

Before the first half had ended, Wilson recorded her second goal from Kirsten Green to slice the deficit to 3-2.

Mankowski connected on free kick at 35 minutes followed by another Mankowski goal with 30 minutes left to give Genesee a 5-2 edge.

Wilson scored from Green with seven minutes left to bring JCC within two goals.

Kaitlin Knott made eight saves for JCC while Maddy Potter had 18 saves for Genesee CC.
